An illustration of memory-hard proof of work. The hash function is not chosen yet, so these are not real hashes.
Bring a graphics card.
ATON uses one Work that needs a lot of fast memory for every try, not only raw speed. Graphics cards have that memory. Machines built for one algorithm gain little over them. Making a block takes a large number of tries at a puzzle, and anyone can check the answer at once. The cost of the tries is what makes the record expensive to rewrite.. It is chosen so an ordinary graphics card can compete, and purpose-built machines cannot pull ahead.

No dates, no hash rates
This page has no launch date, no hash rates and no reward figures, because none of them is settled. They go into the specification first, then here.
