AtheronBlockchain

An illustration of blocks kept back, published late and coloured red. It is not live network data.

What could go wrong.

ATON is software being built. Nothing here is advice or an offer, and tokens, mining and software all carry real risk.

ATON is not built yet, and the network is not running. Nothing on this site is advice, an offer or a promise. If ATON launches, a token can lose all its value, mining can cost more than it brings in, and software can fail. Plans change. Make your own decisions, with help you choose.

01What this page covers

This page applies to this site, the ATON specification, the roadmap and build status, and anything else we publish about ATON, including what the support chat says. It adds to the terms; it does not replace them.

02Not advice

Nothing we publish is financial, legal, tax or accounting advice, or a recommendation to get, keep, mine or part with anything. We do not know your circumstances. Before you make a decision, talk to a qualified professional you choose.

03Not an offer

Nothing on this site is an offer to sell, or a request to buy, a security, a token or any other asset, anywhere. We take no money for ATON, there is no presale, and anybody offering ATON before launch is not us.

The specification settles a fair launch: no premine and no sale. Units are issued by mining only, with one exception, the team allocation. Its size and its vesting schedule are not decided yet, and they are disclosed before the first block is mined.

No regulator has reviewed or approved anything on this site.

04Plans, not promises

The roadmap, the build status and any sentence about what ATON will do describe a plan. They rest on assumptions that may turn out wrong: that the software can be built as specified, that it works safely at scale, that people choose to run nodes and mine, and that the law allows it where they live.

The specification leaves these open today, and nothing on this site assumes a value for them:

  • the target rate at which blocks are made;
  • the ordering rule's k parameter, and the exact ordering procedure;
  • how transactions in the ordered blocks are applied;
  • the proof-of-work hash function;
  • the shape of the emission curve and the size of the tail;
  • the size and vesting schedule of the team allocation.

We give no launch date. We may change the design, delay it, or stop the project, and the specification is the only place a decision counts as made.

05Token risks

If ATON launches, these are real:

  • A token can lose some or all of its value, and may never be worth anything.
  • Nobody is obliged to accept it, swap it or list it anywhere, including us.
  • It is not money issued by a government, and no deposit insurance covers it.
  • Transactions cannot be reversed. A payment sent to the wrong address is gone.
  • Whoever holds the private keys controls the coins. Lose your keys or recovery phrase, and the coins are lost for good; nobody, including us, can get them back.
  • The law on tokens differs between countries and changes. It may limit what you can do, and you may owe tax on what you receive or spend.

06Mining risks

  • Mining costs money: hardware, electricity, cooling and time. What a miner receives may be worth less than it cost, or nothing.
  • The proof of work is memory-hard so that ordinary graphics cards can compete, but the hash function is not chosen yet, so nobody can know today how any card will perform.
  • Running a card hard for long periods wears it, and adds heat and power load where you run it.
  • Some places restrict mining or the power it uses. Check the rules where you are.

07Software risks

  • The node, the reference wallet and the specification are software and documents written by people. They can contain mistakes, including mistakes that affect security or the agreed order of blocks.
  • A network can be attacked. The GHOSTDAG-style rule colours blocks published late red, but no design removes every attack.
  • Software published openly is provided as it is, under its licence. Wallets, pools, exchanges and tools made by others are not ours, and we cannot answer for them.

If you find a flaw, please report it privately under the security disclosure policy.

08Scams that use our name

  • We never sell ATON, and we never ask you to send coins or money to take part in anything.
  • We never ask for your private keys, recovery phrase or passwords, in the chat or anywhere else.
  • We do not message people first to offer anything.

Tell us about anybody using our name: legal@aton-network.org

09Your decisions

What you do with what you read here is your decision, and so is following the law and paying any tax where you live. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
